Residents in Beaufort Court had their water cut off

A mains burst which left hundreds of residents without water has been fixed.

More than 90 flats in the retirement block at Beaufort Court in Beaufort Road, St Leonards, as well as other properties, lost their supply yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, June 18).

Southern Water and Orbit South housing association, which manages Beaufort Court, laid on bottled water for residents until the problem was resolved at 2.30am this morning (Thursday).

Engineers from the water firm were still trying to repair the fault at around 8.30pm yesterday.

A spokeswoman for Southern Water said: “Our teams worked through the night to carry out the repair on the burst water main in Alexandra Park. It was made more difficult by the position of a large oak tree but they managed to work around this and supplies to customers were restored at about 2.30am. The team will be back on site today to complete reinstatement works.

“We would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding during this difficult repair.”
