Lucy Adams the UK’s No.1 female Skateboarder visited the Boyley Skate Park on Tuesday evening (16th) to raise the profile of Us Girls and give tuition to local skaters.

Us Girls, which is dedicated to get more young women active, is coordinated by the Council’s own award winning StreetGames team.

Lucy, a Pro-Skater who has signed up to become an ‘Us Girls Champion’ commented: “I think the event was great and it definitely helped to inspire some of the girls that attended. Thank you all for organising and inviting me over, it’s a great project running in Hastings – I’m really impressed!”

Cllr Emily Westley, lead member for leisure said: “It was encouraging to see so many young people at the skate park, in particular, all the young girls that came along to have some hands on tuition with Lucy. She is a great role model for girls and young women and, it would be wonderful to see more girls taking up this activity.”

“Us Girls aims to encourage more young women to get active, enjoy sport and meet new friends, with Lucy’s help this week we hope that this will be the start of skateboarding for girls here in Hastings”

“The Boyley Skate Park is a fantastic resource for local people. The Council are currently working with local partners and skate park users to raise funds for the proposed phase 2 extension”
