A MAJORETTE group presented £500 to war veterans this week.

Members of Hastings Coastal Twirlers had collected the proceeds from a fundraising event they staged at the end of last month.

They twirled from Winkle Island to the pier and back again in support of service veterans with members of the public cheering them on.

The group was led by organiser Pat Witt and her husband Dennis, with Teresa Lewis as team leader.

Other group members helping out on the day, were Steph Butchers and Bob Bailey.

The £500 cheque was presented to Hastings and St Leonards Veterans Association president, Pam Brown OBE, with veterans Bryan Hunter and association secretary Cllr Richard Vallery-Peters.

Mrs Witt said the girls wanted to help the service veterans with fundraising for the annual Armed Forces Day, and thanked Cllr Vallery-Peters for his help on the day pushing her wheelchair for the duration of the event.
