FRIENDS of Esme Balp, who died on her way home from a party, have paid tribute to a ‘cheerful, happy’ young woman.
The 18-year-old, from Battle Road, St Leonards, began to have trouble breathing before collapsing in Brett Drive, Bexhill, last Tuesday (December 20), as she walked home with a friend from a party in the early hours.
Her death is not being treated by police as suspicious, although the cause has yet to be confirmed, pending the results of histology and toxicology tests.
Her family did not wish to speak at this time, but messages have been posted on social networking site Twitter. Amber (Kimi) Quick said: “RIP my beautiful friend Esme Balp. You were a true gem and bright soul that brought happiness to everyone around you.”
On the Observer website, a friend identified only as Jess, left the following comment: “Esme Balp was one of the most amazing people you could of ever had the pleasure in meeting!
“Her personality was so cheerful, happy and there wasn’t nothing Esme couldn’t say or do to cheer you up!
“My sympathy and thoughts go out to her family at this sad time. Merry Christmas Esme, Rest in peace.”
A police spokesman said the coroner would open and adjourn an inquest in due course.
