On its website, Southern said: “One of the diesel trains that runs on our route between Eastbourne and Ashford International broke down this morning.

“Because of this, there is a shortage of available trains for this route and unfortunately this has led to cancellations.

“Southern have asked for rail replacement buses to run between Hastings and Ashford.

“These buses are on their way, if your train is cancelled please speak to one of our station team who will show you where to wait for the rail replacement bus. If there are no staff at your station please use the Help Points, usually located on the platforms, and one of our helpline team will advise you where to wait for the bus.”
