Hide AdA spokesperson from Network Rail said: “There is a problem at Polegate and our signaller can’t seem to be able to raise the barriers.
“We have a person on site now manually controlling them (under instruction from the signaller at Three Bridges) until we can get a technical team to site to fix the problem.
“We’re really sorry to the people of the area, who have no doubt seen heavy traffic as a result, and we are on the case to fix the issue ASAP.”
The AA said there was also a two-vehicle collision on Cop Hall Roundabout – which was first reported to them at around 4pm.
According to Sussex Police there were no injuries and the road has since reopened.
Southern Rail have been contacted for more information.
