Police said a black Ford Fiesta driven by a 31-year-old Worthing woman was involved in a collision with a grey Toyota Corolla travelling east along Marine Parade, close to the Pavilion Theatre, just after 8pm on Saturday (March 14).

The Ford then crashed through the front window of Harry Ramsden’s fish and chips shop, police said.

The woman and the front seat passenger in the Toyota, a 22-year-old man from Pulborough, suffered bruising, but neither required hospital treatment.

No one in the shop was injured.

Charles George Smith, 24, of High Bar Lane, Thakeham, the Toyota driver, was unhurt.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “He provided a positive roadside breath test and was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.”

He was subsequently charged with driving with excess alcohol and has been bailed to appear before Worthing magistrates on Monday March 30.
