Officers were called to Tile Barn Road at 3.14pm today (January 7) after reports of the incident.

A police spokesman said a man fell off his moped adding he is ‘conscious and breathing’.

The South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) sent two ambulances to the scene.

A SECAmb spokesman said the man was treated at the scene for neck and back pain before being taken to Conquest Hospital.

Police said no other vehicle appeared to be involved.

An eyewitness, who lives in Tile Barn Road, said she was alerted to the incident when she heard a bang outside her house before calling the emergency services.

She said the road was temporarily closed between Carpenter Drive and Kent Road to stop vehicles passing the injured rider.

The eyewitness, who asked not to be named, said the driver was able to talk to paramedics before they were taken away in an ambulance at 4.40pm.

She said the rider’s dad was made aware of the incident and attended the scene.
