As part of the national Volunteers’ Week, the Arun Volunteer Centre, based at the Bradbury Centre, in St Martin’s Lane, Littlehampton, is holding an event to express the community’s gratitude to all those who give up their time freely to help others.

The centre will be hosting a “Volunteers’ Thank You Day” at the Littlehampton United Church, in Arundel Road, on Thursday (June 6).

The event takes place between 9.30am and 4pm, with doors opening for visitors at 10am, and aims to highlight the tremendous work undertaken by volunteers across the Arun district.

Derek Moore, co-ordinator of the centre, said: “The aim of the event is to celebrate existing volunteers’ achievements, to say a big thank-you for their dedication and commitment, to highlight the activities of voluntary groups and organisations within the Arun area, as well as to try to recruit new volunteers and have some fun.”

The theme for this year’s event centres on personal health and well-being, and so will include a range of activities throughout the day the get the blood pumping.

There will also be free refreshments and a chance to take a break from the activities and have a go at playing on the Xbox 360 that will be set up for the session.

Derek added: “For many of our local voluntary and community groups, volunteers are their lifeblood, and in some cases organisations simply wouldn’t be able to function without the tireless support they receive from their volunteers.

“So how can these efforts be acknowledged, and what are the best ways to reward volunteers for their contributions?

“If you are a prospective volunteer, please put this date in your diary and come along on the day.

“You will not be put under any pressure or be pushed into becoming a volunteer, if after taking a look you don’t think volunteering is for you, that is your decision.”
