This year's mane attraction

THE skies were kind to all those with both four legs and two taking part in Bexhill Horse Show on Bank Holiday Monday.

Past years have seen horses standing against sheets of horizontal rain but this time gloomy clouds cleared and the event took place in warm spring sunshine.

Organiser Jennie Cunliffe was pleased with how the show went and said jumping classes were “very well attended” compared with previous years, with class 7 having double the entries of last year.

Jennie said: “It is good to see competitors who not normally jump in the main ring giving this class a try and since we moved it to the afternoon it has been more successful.

“The drive was fantastic with a great turnout of eight, the spectators loved it and competitors have been phoning to say what a lovely day they had. So much work goes into driving turnouts and we appreciate their efforts.

“Ring Three had very good entries, particularly the mountain and moorland classes. Really the only disappointments were the Working Hunter classes but we think this was down to people worrying about the hard ground which actually rode very well considering the lack of rain, and most people seemed happy to run their horses as sand is put down before and after all jumps.

“As always spectators enjoyed the bloodhounds and Shire horses and we would like to say a massive thank you to our sponsors and volunteer helpers who make the show what it is.

“The dog show had its best year ever and entries were of great quality. All proceeds from this go to St Michael’s Hospice.”
