A THIEF conned an 83-year-old man into going for a cup of coffee before stealing his £170 pension.
The woman engaged the victim, who is almost blind, in conversation at the Post Office in Cambridge Road, Hastings around 10.50am last Thursday.
She knew his name and suggested they go for a cup of coffee together.
The victim is visually impaired and can only see a matter of inches. Although he did not know her, he allowed her to escort him to the town centre.
After a few yards the woman let go of his arm and started to walk ahead of him.
As she let go the victim has noticed that his wallet was no longer in his jacket pocket and he managed to grab hold of her arm to challenge her.
She denied taking the wallet but as she was doing this he took back the wallet.
The woman walked away towards the town centre and it is believed that about £170 was taken with the majority of it being £20 notes.
The woman is described as white, about 25, with brown hair, about 5’5” wearing a black puffa jacket and wearing black leggings/trousers. Witnesses can call police on 101 quoting serial 0447 of 15/11.
