SEAGULL proof refuse bags are proving a success in their first trials in Bohemia, Castle and Tressell wards according to the borough council.
There are fewer black bin bags being ripped open on the streets by gulls and foxes.
The sacks were rolled out into the three wards this week and if successful will be handed out to all homes without wheelie bins within the borough.
Councillor Phil Scott, lead member for environment said: “I attended West Hill areas pre and post collection and this scheme is already so much better; there were no visible signs of any black bags having been ripped apart.”
“The bags are strong enough to withstand attacks from gulls and foxes. They are also a good size and residents should find them large enough to easily contain household rubbish.
“I would like to thank residents who are taking part in this trial.”
