HASTINGS Castle is forever linked to the most famous year in English history, 1066, however newlyweds Adam and Leanne Stockley have a much more recent and personal connection to the historic ruins.
The couple used the Norman castle as the backdrop for their wedding celebrations earlier this month, the first time it has been used for an event of this kind.
Displays supervisor Adam, 31, who has worked at the castle’s sister attraction Blue Reef Aquarium for the past eight years, and sales executive Leanne, 29, both from Hastings, decided the castle would be the perfect place to have their wedding blessed.
The ruined fortification, perched on the West Hill, played host to more than 120 wedding guests at the ceremony.
The couple officially got married at Hastings Registration Office but wanted a romantic location for the blessing. Adam said: “It really was a wonderful experience and the perfect way for us both to celebrate our wedding together with all our friends and family.
“To be able to look out over the whole town and out to sea while surrounded by the ruins of a castle which has stood here for nearly a thousand years is something neither of us will ever forget.
He added:“Working at the aquarium there had been some suggestions we should tie the knot in an underwater ceremony in the main ocean tank but we both agreed that this was a far better alternative!”
