The children of Vinehall School put down their pens

Last Wednesday all the children and staff at Vinehall Pre-Prep put down their pens and picked up language in support of No Pens Day Wednesday which is a national school event organised by The Communication Trust.

No Pens Day Wednesday highlights the importance of speaking and listening skills. The children enjoyed a day without having to use any writing or drawing implements. Instead there was a huge range of creative activities.

The youngest children in Nursery and Kindergarten enjoyed gymnastics, music and movement and an autumn walk in the school grounds.

The Reception class made treasure maps with sand and shells and enjoyed role play in their pirate ship.

In Year 1 the children worked in pairs giving their partner instructions for making a sandwich.

They had a bubble filled afternoon, investigating whether all bubbles were spheres and printing bubbles in a variety of messy but immensely enjoyable activities.

The Year 2 classes produced news reports, in which roving reporters interviewed survivors of the Great Fire of London.

Lorraine Ford, the English Coordinator, said “No Pens Day Wednesday was a popular event with children, staff and parents. The children learned so much.”
