Tweet a photo of yourself with one of the creatures to @Lewes DC using the hashtag #LDCWild to be entered into a weekly draw to win a nature-themed prize. LDC Wild aims to encourage people to discover the beautiful and varied green spaces in the district. LDC Wild will be at Centenary Park in Peacehaven from Friday August 19 to Thursday August 25.

TELSCOMBE TWITTENS: How many of you know about the twittens in Telscombe? The word twitten is an old Sussex dialect to describe a narrow path between two walls or hedges. In the case of Telscombe, many were created to form a cesspit run between rows of houses in the times before mains drainage was available. Today many of the twittens are overgrown as nobody appears to own them or take the trouble to maintain them, although some are very well used as shortcuts to schools, bus stops etc. Telscombe Residents Association, are starting the process to get some of these twittens recognised as public rights of way, and if they are successful, then maintenance of these twittens would fall to East Sussex County Council. Do you use any of these twittens, would you be able to identify them and help them get as many as possible recognised as public rights of way? SENIOR TEA CLUB: Our new Mayor, Cllr Gwen Maskell, and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Joanna Wilkins, recently attended a senior tea morning at Telscombe Civic Centre. It is run by the Deans Senior Tea Club who offer tea and cake, socialising, games and entertainment. It takes place every Tuesday from 10.30am to12.30pm. Entry is free but donations are happily accepted. They can also assist with transport if required. Their aim is to combat loneliness in older age whilst having a jolly good time so why not come along and give it a try For more information call Maria on 01273 307435 www.thedeansseniorteaclub.org

FLOWER CLUB: Peacehaven and Telscombe Flower Club meet on the third Wednesday of each month, 2pm for 2.30pm start at the Civic Centre.

FOOTNOTES: I have realised as I have got older, that I have become a creature of habit. This was brought somewhat forcefully home to me this week on one of my bi-weekly visits to my local supermarket, who have decided to expand their premises. Now, normally, you could blindfold me and I would go unerringly to the vegetable, meat, cheese, etc., stands without a pause. Even the hardware and pet areas I could find without looking. Not any more. To facilitate their expansion, the supermarket has blocked off some areas, moved others and generally created mayhem for innocent souls like myself, who are only interested in getting there, doing my shopping and getting out again. Now I know that this is anathema to marketing coves, who firmly believe, despite all evidence to the contrary, that if you move products around, customers will search for them and in doing so buy other items they have to pass in the search. Judging by the irate and unprintable remarks I overheard from other customers, this policy is not working, if, indeed it ever did. The names of rival supermarkets loomed large in their comments, with promises to go to them. I, however, have no doubt I will in time get used to the new order. This is because I am basically lazy, a fact the supermarket supremo’s are well aware of and of course rely on. Onwards and upwards. The summer has decided to make a belated appearance. The garden is looking its best now and the apple and plum trees are beginning to become laden with fruit. I will leave you with Keat’s immortal lines. ‘To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees, And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core.’
