RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION: Telscombe Residents’ Association meet on the first Thursday of each month from 7.15pm to 9.15pm in the Civic Centre. Email the secretary at [email protected] for a copy of the meeting agenda.

SUPPORT GROUP: Breast Cancer Support Group meet on the first Wednesday of each month from 1pm to 3.30pm at the Civic Centre. Contact email: [email protected]

EVENING OF MEDIUMSHIP: Dorothy Young and guest Mediums on Friday November 4, 6.45pm for 7.30pm start until 9pm at the Civic Centre. Ticket price £7, entry on the door available. Contact Dawn on 07951 947709.

BINGO EVENING: Today, Friday, 6.45pm for 7pm start at the Civic Centre. Eight games played for £4, plus an additional Snowball (50p per single ticket) and Flyer game (£1 a sheet). Free cup of tea/coffee at half-time break. Proceeds to Mayor of Telscombe’s charity fund.

COUNCIL MEETINGS: Planning and Highways meeting on Wednesday at 7.30pm. If there is insufficient business, meetings may be cancelled. Please therefore telephone the Civic Centre on 01273 589777 to ensure that the meeting is being held. Meetings are open to members of the public who are able to ask questions for a 15 minute period at the start of each meeting. Meetings are held in Telscombe Civic Centre, 360 South Coast Road unless otherwise stated.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Children’s Halloween Party at Telscombe Civic Centre £2.50 per ticket to include a hot dog, drink and children’s entertainer. Saturday November 5, 10am to 11am Councillors Surgery at Telscombe Civic Centre, come and meet your Councillors, no appointment necessary. Friday November 18, 7.15pm Quiz in aid of Children in Need at the Civic Centre. Bring your own food and drink Teams of up to six at £2 per person. Saturday November 19, 7pm Race Night in aid of Telscombe Residents Association and Mayor’s Charity fund at the Civic Centre. Tickets £6 each.

FOOTNOTES: Well, that is it. I shall soon be standing in the gutter, heavily veiled, playing a violin with a cap in front of me. The reason? I have at last succumbed to the cold weather and switched the heating on. I have put it off so far with sweaters and thick trousers indoors, but the other evening it got so cold I could stand it no longer and switched it on. It never ceases to amaze me at what the stuff costs. Despite my having a conglomeration of different ‘plans’, all designed I am earnestly told, to save me money. They never do. Despite the pretty graphs they illustrate their bills with, I still end up paying more than I did last year, whilst, according to the afore mentioned graphs, I am using less energy. It is a conjuring trick worthy of Houdini himself. So, I have to shrug and grit my teeth and watch my monthly debit payments go into orbit. I have listened carefully to all the advice given to me, particularly by BBC Radio 4’s pundits, one of whom was earnestly recommending me to keep changing suppliers. Do these people live in the real world? As soon as you change to another supplier, they wait until you are settled in and then put their prices up to match the one you have just left. This, after you have spent hours phoning, filling in forms, contacting the bank etc. If I wanted a full time job switching energy suppliers, I would apply for one, if they exist. Never mind. I huddle into my chair, warm but broke and wait impatiently for spring, like some latter day mole in hibernation. Go safely, wherever life takes you and enjoy your week.
