A motorist could provide vital information concerning an assault on a Czech woman and girl which took place in Battle Road, St Leonards.

The victims, aged 19 and 14, were walking home and were near Asda on Tuesday, July 7 when they were attacked between 8.15pm and 9.15pm.

The teenager was slapped and the older woman grabbed and pushed.

Neither required hospital treatment.

Their assailant is described as a white man, 5ft 10ins tall, very slim with short, blonde hair.

He wore a long-sleeved white t-shirt or jumper with writing on the front and blue jeans.

Police are appealing for the driver of what has been described by the victims as an ‘older style’ silver Volkswagen Golf to come forward.

The driver noticed the assault and sounded the car’s horn, causing the offender to run off.

She then helped the victims by driving them to an address in St Leonards.

The driver was a white female, in her 30s, with dark hair and glasses, wearing a white top and black trousers.

PC Michaela Haddock said: “This was a malicious assault on two young women, and the driver of this vehicle without doubt prevented it from escalating even further.

“If this was you, please contact us so that we may pass on our thanks and also see if you might be able to help identify the offender.”

The car driver or anyone else who saw what happened is asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phonell 101, quoting serial 1631 of 7/7.

Alternatively, witnesses can call call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
