Teenage gang rob man at cash point

A GANG of six teenagers, including one as young as 13, has been arrested after a man was robbed as he withdrew money from a cash machine.

The 40-year-old victim was using the Nationwide ATM in London Road at 9.35pm on Tuesday when the gang struck.

He was approached from behind and pushed as he was withdrawing money. The gang then took his money, bank card, watch and wallet stolen.

They ran from the scene towards North Street and the victim chased after them. One of the group stopped and assaulted the victim and then ran off again.

Officers carried out a search of the area and six people were arrested.

Two 17-year-old boys, two 16-year-old boys and a 13-year old boy, all from St Leonards, were arrested on suspicion of robbery.

An 18-year-old woman from St Leonards was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of cannabis.

Detective sergeant Ben Newman of Hastings CID said: “We would never encourage anyone to put their own safety at risk and thankfully in this case the victim was only left with minor injuries.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident.”
