Tasty school trip for Nick

Nick, who was taken on a guided tour of the school’s facilities by members of the school council, was treated to a selection of delicious home-grown treats cooked by some of the children.

The MP was given a sample of the butternut squash bread, freshly baked by the school’s cookery class, earlier that day, as part of their “grow it, cook it” programme.

Proud pupils then showed Nick their classrooms, library, music class and new outdoor learning areas.

He also took a stroll around the newly installed raised garden beds and mini-amphitheatre style area which is used for open-air lessons.

Following the tour, the school council, led by head teacher Jane Walters, held a questions and answers session in the library. Representatives from all of the year groups quizzed Nick on a few of his favourite things, as well as asking him about his work as a politician.

At the end of the visit he was presented with a portfolio of portraits that the school had painted of him.

Nick said: “It was a pleasure to meet the staff and children of Slindon School, and I enjoyed answering their very challenging questions. The butternut squash bread was also delicious, and it was great to see the children growing their own produce and cooking it. I think it’s excellent that children are learning about good food and where it comes from.”
