A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “At about 9.30am seven men were seen to get out of a stationary lorry in a layby on the A259 between Icklesham and Guestling. Four were detained by police at the scene and the other three were found nearby. All seven have been arrested on suspicion of being illegal immigrants and are currently in custody.

“The lorry drove away prior to the arrival of police and has not yet been traced.

“The UK Border authorities will be taking over the investigation.”
