PUPILS at Helenswood got a surprise visitor when HRH Duchess of Cornwall popped in after her recent visit to Hastings.

Camilla had been in town for a commemorative service at Hastings Crematorium – her first engagement as the official patron of the Hastings and St Leonards Veterans’ Society.

Girls from the school on The Ridge had been invited to present wreaths to guests as part of the service.

And, as a special thank you to the students, the Duchess called into the school after a lunch at the Royal Victoria Hotel on St Leonards seafront.

Lucy Monk, the school’s headteacher, said: “It was an honour for Helenswood staff and students to meet the Duchess of Cornwall.

“She spent a considerable amount of time chatting with us all and I am sure she will carry away fond memories of us all.”
