LEISURE facilities look set to improve at Summerfields after Freedom Leisure was granted an extension to its contract.
The company was granted an extension of its leisure management contract for a further two years from November 2015 to November 2017 at the council’s cabinet meeting on Monday (December 3).
It has been confirmed that Freedom Leisure will contribute £160,000 immediately towards refurbishment at Summerfields Leisure Centre.
A recent review identified under-used areas of the building, which could be developed.
Councillor Emily Westley, lead member for leisure and amenities, said: “I am over the moon about the deal, which is great news for local residents who will see improved facilities at no additional cost to the council tax payer.
“We will continue to save £620,000 on the zero management fee for the further two years.”
“We are committed to the health and wellbeing of residents and improvements to the facilities at Summerfields will be beneficial to all.”
