STUDENTS from the two new academies were busy packing hampers for the needy, ahead of Christmas.
They were asked to bring in food items for the presents to be donated to the elderly, hard-up families and the homeless via the charity Surviving Christmas.
At The St Leonards Academy a competition was held for students to decorate their hamper boxes in a Christmas theme. The winners were form 7S4 and a joint entry by forms ES21 and 18.
Caroline Oliver, who co-ordinated this year’s event at The St Leonards Academy, said: “We would like to thank students and parents for giving so generously to this very worthy cause. We look forward to helping out again next year.”
Students from all tutor groups at The Hastings Academy decorated a hamper and filled it with non-perishable food, toiletries, gifts and small clothing items. More than 40 hampers were collected by Surviving Christmas at the end of term. In addition, on the last day of term, pupils had a mufti day in aid of Surviving Christmas with all proceeds donated to the charity.
