Street party road fees waived

ROAD closure fees have been waived for street parties to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Hastings Borough Council has announced party planners will not have to pay the usual £75 charge as long as applications are in by May 4.

Councillor Phil Scott, lead member for highways, said: “Traditionally, communities have held street parties for events such as this and we want to encourage, rather than hinder, these community get-togethers. It’s a great excuse for a party and to enjoy the extra bank holiday. I would urge groups planning a street party to contact us as soon as possible. Applications made after May 4 will have to pay the fee and risk not receiving permission at all.”
