Street drinker breached police bail

A STREET drinker wound up in court after breaching his police bail.

Gerald Duffy, 68, of Cantelupe Road, appeared at Hastings Magistrates Court on Friday after being seen by police with cans of Tennants Super Lager and Kestrel Super Lager in Wellington Place, Hastings.

After a quick check police discovered he was on bail and his conditions forbid him from being in public with either a knife or open alcoholic beverage. Mark Kately, prosecuting, said Duffy had a lengthy list of previous convictions going back 40 years.

Because Duffy, who admitted the breach, is still awaiting a court appearance for the matters he was originally bailed for, magistrates decided to take no further action.
