Stranded dog walker and pet rescued from the River Arun

LIFEBOAT crews were called out to Littlehampton, yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, June 20) to rescue a stranded dog walker and his pet.

The crew responded to a 999 call which reported a man and dog in distress on the shingle bank at the mouth of the River Arun, shortly before 5pm.

Lifeboat volunteers Ivan Greer, Nick Miller and Olly Lamb-Cona, set out on the Spirit of Juniper, rescued the Horsham man and his dog, Evie, and dropped them off safely at the Littlehampton ferry pick-up point, on the west bank of the river.

The pair were shaken but unharmed by the ordeal, with a spokeswoman from the RNLI adding that, after thanking the rescue team, the owner and his pet continued on the daily stroll.
