St Leonards fast food worker sentenced over fatal Battle motorcycle crash

Cameron Flanagan, of Sedlescombe Road South, pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving at Lewes Crown Court on April 19.

The 19-year-old was charged after Stephen Mould, 66, from St Leonards, died when the Triumph Bonneville motorcycle he was riding was in a crash with a silver Hyundai, driven by Flanagan, on the A2100 Hastings Road at Telham on July 15.

Flanagan was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, suspended for two years and was ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work within 12 months at Lewes Crown Court.

He was also put under curfew for three months and disqualified from driving for four years and will need to take an extended re-test.

Mr Mould’s pillion passenger and wife suffered life-changing injuries in the crash and was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital along with Flanagan who had serious injuries.

Sergeant Bryan McCartney, who dealth with the case, said: “This tragic incident began with a lapse of concentration which sadly ended in the death of Mr Mould and serious, life-changing injuries for his wife.

“Mr Mould’s family have been left totally devastated by their loss.

“The young driver, who was also seriously injured, pleaded guilty to the offence and must now live with the consequences of his actions.”

Flanagan appeared at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on March 23 but was sent for trial at Lewes Crown Court.
