TEKAMELI, a Gypsy flamenco group that hails from France will be giving its first ever UK performance at The Stade Open Space tomorrow (Saturday).
The flamenco that Tekameli embraces is not traditional but combines Gypsy flamenco with elements of Latin pop and salsa. The deeply rhythmic, soulful songs speak of love of life, love of family and love of God.
Councillor Peter Chowney, lead member for regeneration, said: “Tekameli has close ties to the world-famous Gypsy Kings. They play the upbeat rumba style of gypsy music that the Gypsy Kings are best known for, but Tekameli specializes in more spiritual gypsy gospel music.
“This is something very different for the Stade Saturdays programme and promises to be a very uplifting, unmissable evening. This is a national first for Hastings as they’ve never played in the UK before.”
The performance starts at 7.30pm.
Next weekend’s event is The Body Circus (May 24 to 26), a three-day extravaganza of live music, DJs, arts and workshops.
