Though numbers at a coffee morning last Thursday were somewhat down on normal, the society is building up its reserves in readiness for 2009.

Chairman Margaret Tate said: "Next year will see our anniversary. We were founded in 1929.

"We are planning a celebration. We have found, for example, that the society paid fo part of the staircase at the De La Warr Pavilion when it was built.

"Other plans for 2009 include a trip to see the Tattoo, which will be celebrating its 60th anniversary next year.

"We will be holding a jazz garden party in June.

The coffee morning raised 40.
