South East Waterfunds good causes

Charities and groups to benefit include South East Kidney Patients Association, which received £500 for 50 blankets for dialysis patients, while Bexhill based Remap Sussex East was given £300 for materials for volunteers to make specially designed equipment for disabled people.

Epilepsy Lifestyle, East Sussex received £362.50 for an Emfit Tonic Monitor to alert to seizures and Mastersport and Play Community Interest Company, Sussex got £1,000 for kayaks and lifejackets .

Once the fund closed for applications, the difficult decision of where the money should go was down to a panel of seven members of staff from right across the company who are themselves involved outside of work with charities.

Michelle Blanch, Production Technician, who is based at the company’s treatment works near Eastbourne and sat on the judging panel, said: “We received some great applications from a number of good causes so the judging process this year was the toughest yet.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to know my contribution has helped support 38 very worthy projects.”

Jo Osborn, Head of Communications at South East Water, said: “The applications were from a wide range of organisations and charities which were water or environment related, or sought to help the young, old or disadvantaged in our supply area. The judging panel decided to award the £30,000 fund to local small projects that need a little extra financial help to make a big difference.”
