Sounds of Abba at the Polegrove

ABBA tribute band Arrival top the line-up for the Party In The Polegrove on Friday, June 23.

Bexhill Carnival Committee plans competitions, give-aways, an Abba fancy dress competition and a host of look-alikes for the 6pm event. Admission to Polegrove is 1 for under 16s., 2 for adults with special 5 tickets for a family of five.

Live performances from Lee Bennett, Collette, Ben Franco, Danielle, Blair and Untouched should make the Party In The Polegrove THE outdoor entertainment event of the year, organisers believe. In Bexhill Carnival tradition, the evening will end with the fireworks display .

Carnival Week gets under way with the traditional Carnival church service forming part of this Sunday's open-air hymn singing at the Colonnade at 8pm. Admission is free.

There are five-a-side football tournaments in Polegrove on Tuesday and Wednesday with registration at 5pm.

Tuesday's junior tournament is for boys', girls' and mixed teams aged eight to 12. Wednesday's youth tournament is for boys', girls' and mixed teams aged from 13 to 18. Medals and trophies will be awarded for both tournaments.

Shaw's Carnival Funfair opens in Polegrove on Wednesday night and runs until Saturday evening.

On Thursday there is a boot sale in Polegrove from 6pm and a quiz night at The Rose And Crown in Turkey Road from 7.30pm.

Saturday, July 24 is Carnival Day. The procession will form up for judging in Turkey Road. It will move off at 1pm. The route to Polegrove is via Ninfield Road and Holliers Hill to High Street, Old Town. From Upper Sea Road it will go down Buckhurst Road to Town Hall Square, into Sackville Road, parading around the town centre before going down Egerton Road to Polegrove.

Arena events in Polegrove start at noon and include American-style cheerleaders, clowns, look-alikes, give-aways and an It's A Knockout-style competition.

Live performances will include a Robbie Williams tribute, Michelle Gayle (from Eastenders), Monroe (Sony Records), 5 Boyz, Ben Franco and Carly Hilman. The day will finish with a tug-o-war competition.
