Thousands of people have been lining the streets of Hastings in defiance of the poor weather for the annual Jack in the Green celebrations today (Monday, May 2).
Jack burst onto the streets with the Bogies this morning and the procession made its way through the Old Town before heading up to the West Hill for the festivities, including on stage performances from dancers, drummers and musicians.
At 3.30pm the Bogies will parade the Jack down to the main stage where he will be symbolically slain and the spirit of summer released for another year.
The Observer’s photographer Justin Lycett is filming today’s festivities and a video, along with more pictures, will be up on our website by 2pm tomorrow (Tuesday, May 3).
