A £1 million skatepark at the former historic White Rock Baths is set to open in January.
The indoor facility, being provided by The Source Hastings Ltd, will include a main skatepark, a small beginners skatepark plaza, a retail store, a cafe, a reception, and outdoor ramps.
The project was pioneered by the family business, which sells BMX bikes, accessories and clothing to customers around the globe, in partnership with the Hastings Borough Council.
Alongside this collaboration, the scheme has benefitted from £120,000 of additional support from HSBC to bring the project to life.
The Source Hastings Ltd has worked with HSBC for the last nine years and, further to the submission of the skate park project plans, the commercial bank provided the company a £20,000 overdraft and a £100,000 trade line to facilitate the fit-out of the skate park and its accompanying shop.
Marc Moore, The Source Hastings Ltd director, said: “This has been an ambitious development, which we will complete building works for in a matter of months. This facility will provide a fantastic entertainment outlet for both the community and tourists, as well as build Hastings’ reputation as a sporting destination.
“The support from HSBC has been fundamental to our plans and has allowed us to make this ambition a reality. We have a long-standing relationship with HSBC because they understand our needs as a local business and have provided simple, long-term solutions to support our growth.”
Cora McLaren, regional head of business banking for HSBC in the south and east, said: “The Source Hastings Ltd is a fantastic family business and it’s clear this new development will be embraced by the community. Through working closely with the company, we have been able to provide them with a programme of funding which will best enhance their business growth.
“This forms part of HSBC’s commitment to helping small businesses realise their ambitions. This year we’ve committed £750 million to lend to SMEs in the south and east.”
Brothers Marc and Richard Moore set up The Source Hastings Ltd in 2003.
