Sinking boat call remains mystery

BOTH Hastings RNLI lifeboats were in action on Saturday, April 9, amid concerns a fishing boat was sinking.

The local coastguards received a mayday call reporting that a fishing boat with four people on board was taking on water.

In response, both the Mersey class large lifeboat and the smaller inshore inflatable were launched and began searching the water just south of St Leonards.

However, despite both crews staying at sea for more than two hours, no boat was found and the search was called off by the Coastguard.
