Well known local photographer Sid Saunders is joining forces with Cubs leader and charity worker Sandra Young in running the Hastings Half Marathon to raise funds for Demelza House children’s hospice.
Sid will be aged 74 the day after the Half Marathon, while Sandra is 65.
Sid explained: “Sandra and I go back a long way. We first met 31 years ago, when I was working on the buses, and we ran the Hastings Half Marathon for charity.
“Sandra does a lot of work for charity and runs local Cubs and Brownies groups.
Sid is taking on the challenge despite having a knee injury.
He said: “I damaged my knee in a motorcycle crash when I was aged 17 and it has flared up again. I may be part-walking some of the route, such as Queensway, but I will get round the course.”
Back in the 1980’s Sid and some friends pushed 21 stone Town Crier Ray Goode around the full course.
He said: “Another time my late wife and I, with our three year old son in the seat, pushed two Tesco trolleys collecting groceries while on the Marathon. We appealed for people to throw groceries into the trolleys on route and handed over the groceries at the end to the WRVS.
