The early storm on Friday, December 12 did not put off an excellent turnout for our last meeting of the year.
Among the newbies this time were Nick Prince and Derek Macey. Nick brought along some copies of The Hastings and St Leonards Herald from 1973. Very interesting LP from Colin Bell of Rupert’s People.
Mick Mepham found the 1987 programme of Hastings International Folk Festival with Tom Paxton headlining.Pete Millington brought along loads of images and cuttings of some great local bands of the 60s.
Eric Cawthraw had with him Jack Bruce’s - Songs for a Tailor LP and Killing Floor - Out of Uranus LP, as well as a Budgie gig ticket when they played in Battle. New photos this month include The Rebels, Steppin’ Out, The Knights & Meridian.
Chat was about, when are Factory going to reform, Curzon cinema, future of local radio, is this the end of the beach concerts, The Tabs reforming, Andy Gunton and The Stinger Magazine having funding to support unsigned local music acts, Pop Inn Taboo Club, Clive Richardson’s coach trip to Carole King The Musical, Andre Martin’s no single dancing on the pier 50 years ago and Sarah Harvey’s excellent You Tube video of Samisen.
We are looking for more people to join us. Photos and cuttings are welcome for the website, from the 60s onwards with a connection to Hastings. We also have a lively SMART chat group on Facebook through the Alan Esdaile Johnny Mason link or contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Visit www.ninebattles.com.
