Seventies Music And Retro Talk (SMART) Club

There was an excellent get-together at the White Rock Hotel on July 4 and the place was buzzing.

New faces included Phil Little, Mike Curtis, Graham Belchamber, Archie Lauchian and Lol Cooksey who came down from Ramsgate to join us. There was excitment about Factory to reform for a gig, with Andy Qunta coming over from the States in the near future.

Chat included Andre Martin’s impressive Happy Ballroom hub talks and Archie Lauchian filming a new pier documentary. Club talk on Bonitas, Scalliwags recent posted video on YouTube, Rennies to Dennies, Regent Hotel and Pebbles Club.

Carnival FM is returning for Carnival Week, Hastings Beach Concert and the excellent recent talk of the Mott Crew at the Electric Palace Cinema. Compilation albums including Island Records sampler Nice Enough to Eat, the nation’s favourite Motown song and favourite song from a film. Bell Records discography, Savage Hearts 1983 album now on YouTube, Shirley Collins, Salvation Sunday mp3s and talk about John Sutherland manager of The Cobweb and Aquarius.

Lots of new photos from Performance, Jaded Angel, The Enid, Elite, The Pullbacks, Daisy, Foxy, The Road, Spyke and Ray McVay Orchestra. Interest in Georgie Fame, 10cc and Paul Carrack coming to the White Rock Theatre and the recent success of the Record Fair in Ore.

If anyone has any group photos, cuttings etc with a connection to Hastings from the 60s onwards, we would be happy to feature them on the website. Looking for more people to join us, we have a lively SMART chat group on Facebook through the Alan Esdaile Johnny Mason link or contact
