Eight will be moving to the Brighton Campus, two will be heading to Eastbourne and one has been withdrawn.

Only four – FDA Broadcast Media, FDA Digital Post Production, FDA Television Production and BA Hons Broadcast Media (top up) – will remain in Hastings.

However, a University of Brighton spokesman said the figures were misleading: “Whilst it looks as if a lot of courses are closing to new entrants from 2017 many of these currently have very small numbers of students and have struggled to recruit – whilst the courses going into the University Centre are amongst the most popular.

“These will be combined with University of Brighton accredited courses already provided by Sussex Coast College Hastings. In addition, new courses will be developed for the University Centre over the next two-to-three years to replace those that are closing or moving to our other campuses.

“We have already started discussions with local stakeholders in Hastings and the surrounding area on the shape of this new provision.”

The campus currently has 680 students but the university says it needs 1,500 to be sustainable.
