After months of planning the big village event, Sedlescombe fayre and flower show takes place this Saturday July 27 on the Sports field. Derek Wright will be master of ceremonies for the afternoon which will start with Hooe village band playing from 1.30pm onwards whilst at 1.50pm the vintage car parade will transport the Flower Princess, Sienna Betti and her attendants Millie Anderson, Ella and Sydney Boriani-Fisher. They will also be carrying Mr Clive Attrell, who will officially open the fayre at 2pm. A familiar face from TV’s Dickinson’s Real Deal he will be available to value your treasures for you too throughout the afternoon, so don’t forget to bring something along on the day. This will start off the afternoon of arena events for everyone to enjoy. This year’s attractions will include Hooe Silver Band, K9 obedience dog demonstration, a children’s fancy dress parade run by volunteers from Sedlescombe pre-school and children’s dance time. There will be plenty of refreshments including the tea tent run by the WI, beer tent run by the Queen’s Head, barbecue run by Sedlescombe Rangers and John our ice cream man with a van.

Battle Community bus, fire engine and Police community support officers will be on hand with information on the services they provide.

There will also be lots of other interesting stalls including willow weaving, many varied crafts and plenty of games to play too. Sedlescombe Societies’ Association, the organising committee,will have their own stalls run by volunteers with all profits generated being donated back into the village so please support these. Don’t forget you can donate to the Bric a Brac, Tombola and the cake stall on the day.

Raffle tickets are on sale now from village businesses and committee members and also on the day. All prizes have been kindly donated by local businesses and include dinner for two at the Brickwall Hotel, grocery hamper from Sedlescombe Stores , hair styling at the Clockhouse, afternoon tea at Kester House , Vouchers from Busters of Salehurst, Carr Taylor and the award winning organic Sedlescombe Vineyard, donation from Great Park farm Nursery and a Carpenters Barn produce basket so far.

Something new this year will be an art exhibition of local artists with Mark Fisher painting throughout the afternoon. There will also be the opportunity to ride on a BMX ramp run by Sedlescombe Youth Club.

A major part of the day is the Sedlescombe and District Gardening society holding their summer show and they are looking for lots of entries this year so please take a look in your schedule to enter at least one or more of the classes. Entries should be brought to the show marquee on the field to be staged between 8am and 10am.

Pestalozzi have once again kindly allowed a parking area close to the field and Battle Air training cadets will be assisting however if you do live within walking distance please consider coming on foot , this does help with the parking and traffic around the village on the day. Wishing you a great community day and please remember all profits raised from the fayre are used to support groups and projects within Sedlescombe.

St John the Baptist monthly coffee morning will be on Thursday August 1 at 2 Forge Cottages, The Green , Sedlescombe at 10am until 12noon. They are hoping for a fine day or if not then the gathering will be indoors . Admission £1 to include coffee, tea and biscuits. there will be a bring and buy, books , cakes and a raffle . A date for the future, Rural Past Times a vintage agricultural weekend featuring crafts, horses and machinery working the land as of times gone by, wood working and pet displays will once again take place at Pestalozzi on Saturday 10 and Subnday 11 August from 10am to 5pm. The St Michaels Hospice Open garden for this week will be the last one of the summer on Tuesday July 30 at fairlight hall, Martineau Lane, Fairlight TN35 5DR. Entry ticket is £5 and it will be open to visitors from 10.30am to 4pm raising funds for this good cause. Refreshments will include afternoon tea served on china cake stands accompanied by glasses of sparkling wine with music to entertain you throughout the day.
