Second blackout strikes residents in Wick

THOUSANDS of people in Wick were left without power as the second blackout in the space of few days hit the area this morning (Tuesday, February 12).

Around 1,894 homes were affected by the latest power cut in the village, a spokeswoman from UK Power Networks announced today.

The incident took place at around 8.54am in the Courtwick Lane area.

Engineers from the energy company restored the connection to most of the homes by 9.22am but more than 200 are still left without power.

It follows a cut on Wednesday (January 6) which saw more than 2,000 homes across Wick and parts of Littlehampton left without power.

UK Power Networks has now launched a full investigation into the blackout.

It is believed that a fault in high-voltage power distribution network is the main cause.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience caused, particularly following a power cut in this area last Wednesday. The cause is being investigated,” the spokeswoman said.
