A maximum of 70 teams enter the event, following training during the winter months.

The hike, which has been running since 1968, is punctuated with incidents such as knotting and first aid.

A wide knowledge of map and compass is required to complete the unknown route with particular emphasis on National Grid References and compass bearings.

Assistant District Commissioner (General Duties) for the Scouts, David King, said: "The real achievement is to complete the course without disqualification or injury and being able to keep to a time schedule. The teams are a credit to themselves and their Scout Groups."

1st Battle Scouts Team achieved third place in the "Scout" Section, and Robertsbridge Scouts also completed the course, gaining 21st place.
