SAMANTHA Hallam is hoping to reach the final of a singing competition a year after she was proposed to live on X Factor, where she reached the boot camp stage.
She has been selected for the regional final of Open Mic UK 2012 being held in Hove on October 27.
Samantha, 39, of Park Crescent, will be performing in front of hundreds of audience members and a professional judging panel to win a place at the National Grand Final.
She impressed judges with her audition performance of Ella Fitzgerald’s Every Time We Say Goodbye, but for her forthcoming performance Samantha said that she was considering singing something by Emeli Sande, Adele, or Ellie Goulding.
“I just love singing, and hopefully that shows when I perform,” she added.
The competition is divided into age categories, 16 and under, 17 to 22 and 23 and over, and all types of singers, vocal performers, groups and acoustic singer/songwriters were invited to enter, and the winner will have the chance of a record deal.
Kiss FM’s Charlie Hedges is already confirmed to join this year’s Grand Final panel for 2012, at the O2 in London.
Samantha, a freelance graphic designer, is no stranger to singing competitions having come third in this year’s Hastings Has Got Talent, and been a winner in this year’s Hastings Talent Show.
However she hit the headlines last September when her fiance Paul Ricketts, proposed to her live on stage following an X Factor audition that was broadcast to a television audience of millions.
She later went out of the competition at the boot camp stage, but this has not diminished her passion for singing, and she is confident that she has what it takes to get to the final of Open Mic UK 2012.
“I have got as good a chance as any,” she said.
Next year, she plans to enter BBC1 singing competition The Voice.
Samantha and Paul are planning to get married in Italy.
