Salvation Army gets donation from sandwich shop customers

SANDWICH lovers donated 50 cans of food to the Salvation Army in exchange for a free Subway baguette.

Customers at the town centre eatery were encouraged to take along a tin of food to hand over and the efforts here in Hastings contributed to a national pot of more than three tonnes of food.

The cans will now be be used by local Salvation Army volunteers to help support families and older people on low incomes with food parcels and given to people sleeping rough.

Major Ray Irving, of The Salvation Army, said: “The generosity will enable us to give practical and emotional support to people who struggle to provide the basics for the table.

“The initiative had a fantastic response and the amount of cans collected in total was astonishing.”
