Rye Harbour RNLI crew members get married

Sharon Gosna and Tony Peters met as RNLI volunteers and their relationship grew into romance, tying the knot at Rye Town Hall on July 9.

After the ceremony, the happy couple were accompanied by the town cryer as they strolled down to Strand Quay to board the Harbour Master’s launch which whisked them away to the RNLI jetty at Rye Harbour.

They celebrated with a glass of champagne while cruising down the river before enjoying a reception with family, friends and fellow RNLI volunteer crew members at the newly refurbished William The Conqueror pub and restaurant.

Sharon said: “It was definitely Tony’s sense of humour and positive attitude that I first found attractive. The rest is history!”

When asked what would happen if the lifeboat was called out to an emergency during the celebrations, Tony said he would just have to drop everything and go, as lives may be at stake.

But the crew were are sure that other volunteers would have saved the day and Sharon’s blushes.

Rye Harbour lifeboat’s operations manager Richard Tollett said: “The RNLI plays a big part in the newly-weds’ lives.

“They share a great sense of community spirit and we all wish them a long and happy marriage.”
