Aldridge also admitted committing a burglary in Edburton, where 4,000-worth of goods was taken from a house.

Hove Crown Court Recorder, Mr Enoch, said the police case had "very strong evidence against Aldridge and that he should serve a minimum of two years".

Following the case, Detective Constable Mark Butcher said: "This is a terrific result from the court and should reassure the local community that Sussex Police takes seriously the investigation of offences and put the best possible case forward to the court.

"The sentence imposed shows that the court takes a strong line with those convicted of such crimes."
