Hastings Rotary Club is aiming to raise its profile and highlight the good work it carries out.
President Peter Georgiadis explained: “Hastings Rotary Club has been in existence since 1922, yet if I went down the seafront in Hastings and asked the average person what they know about Hastings Rotary Club I would in most cases get a very blank look back in return, which is a crying shame.
“We raise lots of money each year for various local projects; we donate money to needy people and organisations, that applies to locally and internationally.
“For instance, one of our lady members has personally helped fund raise and build a school for the young victims of the Tsunami that occurred in Thailand some years ago. Each year one of our Rotarians organises in the town fun activities for deprived youngsters from Deptford in South London. They come down for the day and experience a pleasurable day by the seaside. Some of these youngsters have never seen the sea before, so it is something very special for them.
We organise blood pressure testing in the town centre, free of charge, to help the public realise they maybe potential stroke victims. We run a schools choir competition at the White Rock Theatre, we also run the America day at America ground on the fourth of July.
“We give a special award each year to a deserving teenager, £250.00 to help with their future and also present them with a framed certificate.
“Rotary does a great deal of good, but we always need more like minded people as members. We meet only the first and third Friday of each month at Bannatyne’s Spa Hotel for a lunch Rotary is great fun as well as being a wonderful organisation for the good of all.”
