A SCHOOLGIRL has scooped an award for her theatrical talents.
Robyn Ashwood, 10, of Tudor Avenue, St Leonards, has been given the accolade at the Child of Sussex awards ceremony at The Grand Hotel in Brighton. She won the Performer award.
The event featured emotional video recordings from the winners’ families and friends.
Robyn, who goes to St Mary Star-of-the-Sea School, was unable to collect her award in person as she is currently on tour in The Sound of Music.
Her father, Dave, was there on her behalf and later broke the news to Robyn over the phone.
Robyn’s heartfelt nomination grabbed the judges’ attention, as over the last year her family have had a difficult time with Robyn’s mother, Steph, undergoing serious brain surgery and her grandmother passing away.
Her mum said: “We are all very proud of Robyn for getting the award. She has been in performing arts since she was seven.”
The schoolgirl trains in all aspects of performing arts at The Theatre Workshop Stage School in Bexhill, which is based at St Richard’s Catholic College and has studied singing privately with Emma Burnett.
Her achievements as a performer include starring in The Sound of Music with Connie Fisher, as Molly in the Annie UK Tour with Su Pollard, and in a music video for Sarah Brightman.
Robyn is a member of The Theatre Workshop Choir, who supported Child of Sussex by sponsoring the Team Award.
Lora Munro, director of The Theatre Workshop, said: “I am sure this will be the first of many performance awards for Robyn.
“She is a great talent and works extremely hard.
“We have many talented students throughout Sussex achieving great success in television, film and professional theatre and it’s wonderful these achievements can be celebrated and recognised in this way.”
