Robertsbridge ends bonfire season with a bang

Robertsbridge has a reputation for staging one of the liveliest local bonfire events and once again it did not disappoint,

A long torch-lit procession left Station Road and travelled up and down the High Street before making its way to the recreation ground fire-site and giant bonfire.

There was a jaw-dropping first this year with a three dimensional talking holographic effigy of Guy Fawkes which morphed into David Cameron with the phrase ‘Lifetime Achievers Award’.

There was a good turn-out from visiting bonfire societies and drumming groups and the, now famous, Robertsbridge Roman Centurians were very much in evidence along with the Society’s old guard dressed in their distinctive monk costumes.

The firework display was one of the best of the season according to visiting society members.

While the event brings a close to local celebrations, many societies in the area will making the journey over the Kent border on Saturday to join in the bonfire event at Hawkhurst.
