Stoolball Tuesday(16th) the mixed played at Scorpions and fielding first we took a wicket on the 6th ball when skipper Richard Apps held onto a catch from Sarah Clark’(1-15) bowling but a second wicket partnership of 47 between Lorraine(17) and Eric(50) took the hosts onto 56 when Keith Apps had Lorraine caught by Richard Ahsam and two balls later took another wicket to finish with figures of 2-2 in his over. Richard Apps(1-7) ended Eric’s innings aided by a catch from Ian Kitson and then some good fielding saw two run out’s before Abigail Fifield(1-8) took the seventh wicket aided by a catch from Di Kitson and in the final over Richard Apps claimed his second catch from Penny Clark’(1-6) bowling as the hosts finished on 138-8. Our innings started badly with skipper Richard Apps caught first ball but a second wicket partnership of 42 between Sarah(29) and Ian(25) held the innings together but from then on it was total mayhem as we lost our last 7 wickets for just 48 runs with Abigail(10n.o.) seeing us through to 105 all out. Thursday(18th) saw our ladies entertain Hooe who batted first and a opening partnership of 91 between Ginette(40) and Sue(68n.o.) was broken when JJ Boast(1-15) took a caught and bowled. This bought Becky(30) to the crease and her partnership of 59 with Sue took their total to 149-2. Our reply was steady with an opening partnership of 42 between Sophie Turner(21) and Penny Clark(24). Kayleigh Sherwood(16) joined Penny for a second wicket partnership of 33 and when Penny went Abigail carried her bat through to the end scoring 25 as we finished 38 runs short of victory. Next Tuesday(30th) the mixed are at home to Hooe(7p.m.) while on Thursday(1st August) the mixed are away to Crowhurst(6.45p.m.). Our first match at Crowhurst Mixed Tournament last Sunday was against Brightling who scored 141 without loss in their 6 overs and in reply we were all out for 56 with Sophie Turner(20) and Diane Kitson(10) reaching double figures. Next was Civil Service who scored 124-3 with wickets for Sophie(2-17) and Richard Apps(1-9) while Josh Lewis and Richard took a catch each. In reply we did slightly better reaching 67-3 with Richard Apps(21), Diane(19n.o.) and Sophie(12) damage. Our final match against the hosts saw the post a total of 106-1 with Josh taking the wicket aidied by a catch from Richard Apps. An opening partnership of 65 between Keith Apps(35) and Sophie(27n.o.) gave us a chance but two wickets in two balls halted the chase and despite Josh(16n.o.) we fell 10 runs short. Tuesday[30th] the mixed are at home to Hooe(7p.m.) while on Thurs(1st Aug.) ther mixed are away to Crowhurst(6.45p.m.).
