Residents invitation to learn more of bright idea

A BRIGHT idea aimed at saving £885,000 on the county’s street lighting bill will be showcased in Ore next Saturday (February 22).

The county council is replacing the borough’s old street lamps with 5,000 energy saving LED lights.

Members of the county’s street lighting team will be at Ore Community Centre, London Road from 9am until noon. Maps will be on display and members of the council’s street lighting team will be on hand to answer questions.

The new lights are part of the county council’s drive to reduce its energy budget by £885,000 over the next three years and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2,800 tonnes.

The council has already saved around £340,000 a year and reduced its CO2 consumption by 2,000 tonnes from switching to LED lights in Eastbourne and introducing part night lighting in other parts of the county.
